hey guys. i've had this pair for about a month now. I got them on aquabid for a good deal. seller bought them at an out-of-state auction as C. bleheri and sold them to me as such.
can you guys confirm?
male
female (picture makes her look blue, she's virtually colorless)
any ideas? thanks |

if the male is that yellowy colour then I would say no they aren't true Chilatheirna bleheri.
C. bleheri are a silvery colour and should not have any yellow or cream colouration, (apart from the dorsal blaze/ stripe). The back half of the male's body goes red but it can vary from populations. Some males have lots of red and others have less red. There should be red in the 2nd dorsal and the anal fin.
Female Chilatherina species all look similar and should never be kept in the same tank. |

yes that is a very accurate picture of the male. i wrote to the aquabid seller and his reply is that he obtained it at an aquarium society auction in indiana from a very reputable member. he spawned the fish and has over 100 fry. i have the parents of the fry, i.e. the original auction fish.
if they aren't true C. bleheri I still wont get rid of the fish, but I just like to know. the dont look like my M. species or the glossolepis that i've kept in the past, so I can at least say they look to be Chilatherina sp., albeit hybrids or so-called aquarium varieties.
thanks for the info |
