|

I stopped by my LFS today to drop off some fish. I had a look around and found some Kamaka's there for the first time ever. $30 for a pair 8(. If they were cheaper I may have bought the dozen or so they had. Here is some pics of them. Hard to take, very active buggers. Some pictures are bad but have a clear shot of one fish. The first one is the best.
This one looks like it has a yellow up front. Seems one random yellow was hanging out.
Then I saw these listed as Australian Rainbowfish. Haven't looked them up yet but typically isn't what I've seen listed with that name. I think these were 2 for $20. They stood almost perfectly still, easy picture!
Then I found this guy! He I'm guessing , was listed as Stiphodon sp. Sure does have personality. They were listed 2 for $20, very tempting, think they would get along with goo-obos?
I'm in Lansing, Michigan. They got some cool snails in as well that I've never seen there including sulawesi, striped nerite and assassins. I cleared up some space getting rid of my 3 male P. nicholsi mouthbrooders (I think one of them killed my multisquam and dorityi pair), my 2 congo tetras and 2 arulius barbs. I still plan to clear out my flying fox when I can catch him.
I'll eventually add more bows but still can't decide on what. I'm still torn between a group of one species or a couple yellows and couple lacustris to go with the big males I already have. Any ideas are welcome! Right now I have odessa barbs, ottos, goo-obos, 2 mellow female gourami (blue and gold), 1 herbertaxelrodi male, 1 lacustris male, 1 bristlenose pleco and 1 heckelii in a 120g. I was thinking of a group of something smaller if I do one species. |

| Nice finds. I've seen M.kamaka only once in a LFS. Those second rainbows are M.australis, not the M.spendida var. that the "Australian Rainbows" generally are. Many have reported seeing M.australis incorrectly labeled as M.maccullochi. |

I bought all my rainbowfish at trilbytropicals.com in Toledo Ohio. They have very nice fish their but are a bit expensive. I paid 14.99 for my one Kamaka. Check out the site if you like.

| stiphodon sp. is probably the best you'll with that one, most stiphodon for that matter. Looks like what's often sold as "red neon" or "rainbow" sp. They're great fish! One of my favorites. Would be good to get him a female for company and to get him to show his colors. I don't know goo-obos but Stiphodon are peaceful and get along well with others IME. Supply plenty of algae for him to graze! |

You should be able to find kamaka much cheaper on Aquabid. I'll be speaking on collecting rainbowfish in New Guinea in Grand Rapids on April 10th. If you want to preorder a group give me a holler.

| That would be fantastic Gary. I'll try to get work off and head over. Is it going to be at the Grand Valley Aquarium Club? I know they have auctions over there and have thought about checking it out before. It's about an hour drive for me so not too bad at all. I'd much rather get quality bows from a member here since I think my LFS gets theirs from Florida typically. |
