Here are the fish in my 38g tank, I am going to give my best guess, but I would love for confirmation - especially with g. incisus. If anyone can guess at ages here, that would be helpful also.
M. Boesemani
Best male
male number 2
male? number 3
female number 1
female number 2
M. Lacustris?
male on the right and female on the left?
G. Incisus
I have a couple pics of the same two fish here to help with ID
Is this female in front, male in back?
male above, female below?
M. maccullochi?
male center, female above?
close-up of the male, is this M. Maccullochi?
thanks for the help! |

I'd say you did a pretty good job with sexing most of them Prime
As well as the lacusrtis judging by the 1st dorsals.
I would say yes..

Seems too early to tell yet even though some red is showing on both .I really don't think the 1st dorsal will tell you much with this species more so as to how fuller bodied the males will start to become and females which remain slender with an olive color...

Was really surprised to see those are actually Mac's and not Austrailis..Think your call on the male and female is correct also.. looks like the 8 band type mac and I can just barley see the black spots on the inner anal fin even though it isn't extended.
good pics make a world of difference... Enjoy your fish

| I wouldn't jump so fast as to putting a location (river, creek) on them especially if you read the article very carefully about the different populations.Unless you got them from a reputable breeder you know who gave the location I would just stay with McCulloch's rainbowfish.Too many have made that mistake assuming you got them from an lfs or online breeder who is the middle man for farming them |

| Yeah, I didnt intend to apply that label to them. More specifically, I was saying that they appeared very similar to the fish in the photo, not necessarily that they shared the origin. |

Good to know.. still a nice looking fish that has been around for a long time and surprised it still looks the same.besides lacustris this was another one of my first bows quite some years back..
still looking at your G.Incisus again here and I'm pretty sure your gonna end up with 2 males.both have red flecks showing on the body scales and in the fins.If i am correct females should have no red in them |

| Do you think they will still develop a nice red color even if there are no females of the G. Incisus sp.? |

| Absolutely. Males will spar and display to each other without fems present. |
